Ron Paul would win Twitter primary
According to TechCrunch, Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX), a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, would win a Twitter primary. Citing a company called Crimson Hexagon, TechCrunch reported Wednesday that Mr. Paul is the most (positively) talked about Republican presidential candidate in the GOP race.
Mr. Paul’s popularity in the social media sphere has helped spread the Texas congressman’s message on Twitter, Facebook and numerous pro-Paul websites. Whether or not Mr. Paul’s Twitter popularity earns him new supporters is debatable, but the Texas congressman secured a third place finish in the Iowa Caucuses and second place finish in the New Hampshire Primary.
According to data from the Crimson Hexagon’s study, Mr. Paul bested former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney in the number of Twitter mentions by a margin of 4 percentage points. In addition, Mr. Paul beat Mr. Romney in the number of positive mentions on Twitter by 3 percentage points.
Billboard.com reported Wednesday that several celebrity Twitter accounts were hacked by Ron Paul supporters Wednesday morning. The Twitter accounts of No Doubt, Nicole Scherzinger and Rise Against were all hacked with following message: “Today We Officially Endorse Ron Paul 2012 Donate to him here http://bit.ly/yDrrFI #ronpaulrevolution.”
The Wall Street Journal reports that President Barack Obama was the most active Twitter user on the night of the New Hampshire Primary. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum tweeted the most out of all the GOP candidates and Mr. Paul tweeted the third most.
Mr. Paul, with nine delegates, is only a few delegates behind Mr. Romney in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Mr. Romney leads all GOP candidates with 13 out of the 1,144 delegates needed to win the nomination and Mr. Santorum is in third place with 6 delegates.
