Transmissions from the Timothy Leary Papers: Ron Paul for President

Posted: 17 May 2014 05:47 AM PDT

Thank you for joining me today in support of Ron Paul and the Libertarian Party. As we enter these closing years of the Roaring Twentieth Century, we're going to see personal computers enhance our lives in ways we can scarcely imagine. Fellow Cyberpunk Chuck Hammill has helped me assemble a collection of bits and bytes you may enjoy.

"If you're wise ... digitize!"

The American Civil Liberties Union echoed Sen. Rand Paul's call to delay a Senate vote Friday on a controversial judicial nominee.

A day after the Kentucky Republican announced his intention to stall the nomination of David Barron to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the ACLU backed his threat to stage a talking filibuster until President Barack Obama's administration turns over legal opinions on much-debated drone program to senators.

These Men Are Training To Put You and Your Family In a FEMA Camp

I have never received more vitriolic email since I ran the John Moore declaration about Russian commandos coming into this country. However, I have received several emails from service personnel confirming exactly what Mr. Moore is claiming. You need to read the following email, word by word, and compare it to military documents that are cited below.

Try It: Find a Senate Dem Who Would Make This @SenRandPaul Speech on Mandatory Minimums

Would Mark Warner or Dianne Feinstein make the speech below on mandatory minimums? Would Tim Kaine, Manchin or Donnelly? It's fun to watch some on the left continue to give Democrats a pass on the issue of over incarceration, mandatory minimums and the war on drugs. Instead the question is can we trust Rand Paul? — he's against voter ID…? this article wonders. That's comical.

Santorum to Target Uranus In Early Bid for GOP Nomination

Posted: 16 May 2014 12:59 PM PDT

In what strategists are calling a bold and unusual move, Rick Santorum plans to jump start the race for the 2016 GOP nomination by targeting Uranus.

"People always point to Iowa as the first step. But, for me, the first step is going to be Uranus. It's essential for me to get first dibs on Uranus, before anyone else gets there. We must not let the cultural decline and moral relativism of our modern society to reach the unsoiled shores of Uranus. That's why I believe I have a great chance get my message to Uranus before anyone else," explained the socially conservative former senator from Pennsylvania.

Students Coast to Coast Write Open Letters about the Effects of Government Surveillance on Academic Life

Students are starting to speak out about how mass surveillance affects life on campus. Two different open letters from students—at the University of Oregon and New York University—have been published in the last two weeks. And both point to the real life consequences of mass government surveillance on academic freedom and life on campus.

The letter from the University of Oregon notes that government surveillance "impairs our collective ability to imagine and organize." Penned by law students, but open for signatures from the entire campus community, the letter discusses how U.S. government surveillance targets non-U.S. persons and thus undermines their ability to collaborate with their peers and fellow researchers abroad. International collaboration and study abroad programs are often points of pride for universities, but mass government surveillance chills those relationships. It's difficult to feel confident talking about controversial research when big brother is watching.

The University of Oregon letter just launched today and should really start to pick up steam next semester. In the meantime, students, professors and members of the campus community are invited to sign on. "This open letter is a good start to giving a voice to students who value critical thought, privacy and the free exchange of ideas in the digital world," said Sharia Mayfield, who organized the letter. "I am particularly concerned about the illegal implications of mass surveillance."

Obama’s Internet ID Plot Being Tested in Two States

Posted: 16 May 2014 08:50 AM PDT

A plot by the Obama administration to impose Internet IDs on Americans is now officially being rolled out, with pilot programs for the controversial online "driver's license" scheme already beginning in both Michigan and Pennsylvania. According to the White House, the virtual "Identity Ecosystem" being funded and pushed by the federal government is supposed to make the Internet more "secure" and "convenient." Critics across the political spectrum, however, are warning that the Orwellian scheme only makes it more convenient for the feds to spy on people, control the public, and suppress dissent.

Indeed, critics, who have been sounding the alarm bells for years, say the plot — a version of which is already in place under the brutal communist regime ruling mainland China — represents a major danger to privacy, free speech, Internet freedom, and more. Organizations and activists from virtually every point on the political spectrum are gearing up to "vehemently" oppose the plan and its brazen threats to freedom — not to mention the constitutional and practical problems it entails.
