Paul Craig Roberts sees the big picture

Posted: 26 May 2014 04:20 AM PDT

AND is bold enough to speak the whole truth. He quotes Smedley Butler and Roberts can be thought of as our living Smedley, calling out today's culprits behind the misery created by the "indispensable country".

Here is the best Memorial Day article I've come across yet.

Why War Is Inevitable
by Paul Craig Roberts

Memorial Day is when we commemorate our war dead. Like the Fourth of July, Memorial Day is being turned into a celebration of war.

Those who lose family members and dear friends to war don't want the deaths to have been in vain. Consequently, wars become glorious deeds performed by noble soldiers fighting for truth, justice, and the American way. Patriotic speeches tell us how much we owe to those who gave their lives so that America could remain free.

The speeches are well-intentioned, but the speeches create a false reality that supports ever more wars. None of America's wars had anything to do with keeping America free. To the contrary, the wars swept away our civil liberties, making us unfree.

Judge Rules Flashing Lights to Warn Drivers Is Protected Free Speech

Posted: 25 May 2014 06:30 PM PDT

About 2:50 p.m. on Nov. 17, 2012, Elli flashed his headlights after passing police. He was stopped and ticketed. Elli faced a $1,000 fine, and later was warned by a municipal judge about a charge of "obstruction of justice."

The city dropped the prosecution after Elli pled not guilty, and later said it ordered police not to enforce the law. Nonetheless, Elli proceeded with a federal lawsuit. In early February, U.S. District Judge Henry Autrey issued an order to make certain he stopped the "chilling effect" on citizens exercising their First Amendment right of free speech.

Judge Henry's ruling makes the important point that Missouri law forbids someone from warning of "impending discovery or apprehension," but specifically excludes telling someone to comply with the law. In other words, communicating "slow down" is protected speech because it encourages safer driving.

Hacking your degree – Get your degree faster & cheaper than ever

Posted: 25 May 2014 05:53 PM PDT

Finding myself out of work recently, I've been pondering going back to school to further my education. After looking into all the options, and schools, I'm completely amazed at the time and cost involved in doing so. For a Bachelors of Finance degree, using just my local colleges in the area (there are many) would cost me upward of around $25,000 just in tuition, and that's on the low end. It would also take around 2+ years to finish. Being 35 years old, with a family to support, taking two years out of my life on someone else's schedule just wasn't going to cut it.

I started to do some digging, and what I've found is nothing short of amazing. I've discovered that through a few specific websites, I can not only take(for free) the exact courses I would need to finish such a degree, but can also schedule, test out of, and get college credit for these courses as I go along, and pay only for the exams(about $80 each). Doing it this way, turns that $25k into around $3k-$5k depending on the degree you're seeking.

So I have set out on a plan, I am going to start studying on my own time, and take the tests when I feel I have learned enough to pass them. Also, the site offering the free courses provides free practice tests as well. If you have ever wanted to "go back to school" or further your education, but didn't have the time or money to do so, this is by far the best way to do it. Below I will show you the resources I'm currently using and offer some insights into each one.

The Hill: Bankers Exhale as Tea Party Power Fizzles

Posted: 25 May 2014 05:24 PM PDT

Banks are breathing a sigh of relief after established GOP incumbents bested a handful of Tea Party challengers at the polls recently.

Industry sources said the establishment wins improve Republican odds of retaking the Senate, which would in turn lead to a friendlier climate for the long-beleaguered sector. But some note that the Tea Party has left a mark on the Republican Party, presenting a challenging landscape for the industry.

The Tea Party movement can trace its roots back to fury about bailouts and banks, but the force that pulled the Republican Party right in recent years is finding less success at the polls recently.

In Idaho, Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) was repeatedly blasted by outside groups for his 2008 vote in favor of the Wall Street rescue, but he soundly defeated his conservative challenger all the same.

Texas Straight Talk
Written By Ron Paul
Sunday, May 25, 2014

President Obama held a press conference last week to express his outrage over reports that the Veterans Administration was routinely delaying treatment to veterans, with some veterans even dying while on alleged secret waiting lists. The president said that, "if these allegations prove to be true, it is dishonorable, it is disgraceful, and I will not tolerate it, period." He vowed that, together with Congress, he would "make sure we're doing right by our veterans across the board."
