You know what's really crazy

In a country of ~350 million people, how the overwhelming majority of the population buys into the mass deception (fiat money, reasons for going to war, etc). It probably has happened many times in many countries in the past too.

"But then it got rather complicated when it was discovered that Bergdahl developed second thoughts about the war in Afghanistan and may have even deserted his unit. Then the neocons began screaming for his blood -- and for Obama's impeachment for trading him for the imprisoned Taliban members."

Someone give this guy a gold star: Congressman Amash marks 2,500 consecutive votes

Michigan Congressman Justin Amash never gets sick. His car never breaks down and he doesn't take off work for doctor's appointments.

OK, that's probably an exaggeration.

Amash has represented Grand Rapids in Congress since 2010. He's never missed a single vote on the House floor. He's now cast 2,500 votes in a row. This appears to put Amash and Congressman Steve Womack from Arkansas in a tie for the prize of longest active voting streak of any sitting representative.

He deserves a gold star for perfect attendance or something, no?

Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul hasn't officially yet declared himself as a presidential candidate, but he told activists that the GOP needs "a libertarian moment" when it comes to its next nominee, not just another "Chamber of Commerce Republican."

"Chamber of Commerce is fine, I was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, but a Chamber of Commerce Republican is not going to win a national election," Paul told the Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas at the state GOP convention Saturday, reports Politico.

Laura Ingraham: We Should Have Traded Cantor for Bergdahl

""If you actually want to help America, sending Taliban back to the battlefield, that's not going to actually help us. The Taliban could actually kill some of our people."

"Sending Eric Cantor back for a little while, let's be sure he gets treated well, that could actually help things. It could help our economy, stop so much spending."

Cory Doctorow: Those who have nothing to hide have a duty to protect the privacy of those who do

JOM: What's the best thing people can do to help?

CD: If you go to www.resetthenet.org, there's a set of tools you can use depending on whether you're a web developer, or an internet user, or someone who's life revolves around your mobile phone. Steps that you can take that will raise the cost of surveilling you. Not necessarily because you have any reason to fear surveillance although you might, and its hard to know until after the fact what will get you in trouble but because if it costs more to surveil us all then mass surveillance is a dead letter.

And I think that especially for those of us who really do feel we've got nothing to hide its really incumbent on us to take steps because, y'know, through no fault of their own we have brothers and sisters and cousins and friends and people out there who are perfectly innocent, who have good reasons to want to hide the fact they're HIV positive or that they married in a way that would displease their parents because of sectarian prejudice, or because they're gay and in the closet, or because they have a disability they don't want an employer to know about.
